Difficulty Notes

Generally considered easy ('trash', 'absolute trash'), but difficulty varies significantly between different configurations/manufacturing batches. Some users report it as a Green Belt lock, while others find it too easy for that ranking.

Sources (r/lockpicking):
- u/Scotching123 (5pts): 'It's a green belt lock on the list.'
- u/JustinMcSlappy (2pts): 'The Master DG is absolute trash'
- u/JustinMcSlappy (2pts): 'There seems to be multiple locks with wildly different configurations floating around.'
- u/JustinMcSlappy (2pts): 'I've seen people saying the Master DG isn't categorized correctly within the belt rankings because it's too easy to pick.'

Picking Notes

SPP (Single Pin Picking) works well; raking mentioned as a contrast to SPP success.

Sources (r/lockpicking):
- u/SilverSuby (2pts): 'I had no problem SPP'ing this Brinks 161-40001... I tried picking a Master 140 and couldn't make any headway at all.'
- u/GeorgiaJim (5pts): 'The Master 911, Paclock and Master DG move around a lot more inside the lock body.'

Bitting Variance

The Master Lock DG is a common US military lock (Green Belt level). It has a chain for affixing to equipment (doors, lockers) which is stenciled with a corresponding number/key. There are known manufacturing variations causing inconsistent difficulty; some batches are very easy, while others (like the Paclock lookalikes or specific configurations) are harder. The Paclock company made similar locks, causing confusion and backlash in the military community around 2005-2012, though the DG itself is attributed to Don Gardner.
