Community Knowledge

Difficulty Notes

Green belt on the current LPU Belt Explorer. Marked as 'unguttable' by LPU — the padlock body doesn't come apart for inspection, so you're picking blind. Some older belt lists placed the ACE Brass 40mm+ at orange, but current LPU ranking is green. This is a meaningful step up from yellow belt locks. Has given experienced pickers trouble — there are forum posts from people who found these surprisingly challenging.

Picking Notes

5 anti-pick brass pin tumblers according to the manufacturer. Expect security pins — likely a mix of spools and possibly serrated drivers. The rekeyable cylinder reportedly can be pinned up to 6 pins for higher security. SPP with patient, light tension. The keyway may be tighter than Master Lock or Brinks. Take your time — this is not a rush lock.

Tension Tips

TOK tension may work better than BOK on this lock due to the keyway profile. Light tension is critical — with 5 pins and security pins, heavy tension will lock you out fast.

False Set Behavior

Expect multiple false sets with security pins in play. More complex false set patterns than the yellow belt Brinks/Master Lock locks — you may get a partial rotation, then need to work through 2-3 more spools to get the open.

Bitting Variance

Less community data on production variance. The rekeyable cylinder means pin stacks could theoretically vary more than fixed-cylinder locks. Since you can't gut the padlock body, you're relying on feel to identify pin types.

Gutting Notes

LPU marks this as unguttable — the padlock body is not designed to be disassembled. The cylinder itself is described as removable and rekeyable by the manufacturer, but accessing it within the padlock shell may not be straightforward. Do not force it apart.

Notes:

Green belt lock — save for after rebuilding spool pin skills on the yellow belt locks. Unguttable per LPU so picking blind. This is the stretch goal of the Tucson haul.
