Difficulty Notes
The lock is considered challenging due to good tolerances and the interactive pin mechanism; some users find it easier than the Abus TS5000/Cisa TSP combo, while others find it scary due to the narrow space and pin count.
Sources (r/lockpicking):
- u/_least (3pts): 'the most challenging for me so far is the Cisa Astral - this lock has very good tolerances'
- u/vdashv (3pts): 'but it scares the s*t out of me looking like a vagina dentata with all these 15 pins clamped together in three rows'
- u/Yom1973 (1pts): 'I have been able to pick the Cisa but the Abus feels comfortable in'

Picking Notes
Tensioning CCW helps set the interactive pin; jamming pin one restricts movement.
Sources (r/lockpicking):
- u/Yom1973 (1pts): 'He also recommends to pick it CCW as this helps massively to set the interactive pin with the tension tool.'
- u/indigoalphasix (2pts): 'don't jam pin one with your tension wrench. pull it out a little bit so the pin moves freely.'

Tension Tips
Use a snug tension wrench (TOK) to counter-rotate the core accurately without slop; avoid jamming the first pin.
Sources (r/lockpicking):
- u/indigoalphasix (2pts): 'TOK works best. use something snug because you'll need to counter rotate the core accurately without slop in the tension wrench.'
- u/indigoalphasix (2pts): 'don't jam pin one with your tension wrench. pull it out a little bit so the pin moves freely.'

Bitting Variance
The lock features a Keso-style mechanism with 3 rows of pins and an active element (interactive pin) located between two horizontal pins in the back. It shares a keyway with the Abus XP1 but has tighter tolerances. It is often compared to the Abus EP10 and Cisa RS3. Some users note that while it is challenging, it is not as difficult as the Abus TS5000/Cisa TSP combination. Spools are common in these locks, particularly in the US market.
